When Silence Becomes Too Loud

Picture

Can you hear it?
The silence?
Threatening to turn me deaf
Tugging at my chest and pulling my heartstrings
Showing things that aren’t there

Can you feel it?
The emptiness?
Gradually driving me insane
Pounding on my heart and calling to my tears
Telling things I need not hear

Can you sense it?
The confusion?
Making worry lines appear
Caressing my mind with things I never had
Suspicions that may seem confirmedCan you feel it?
The intense fear?
One that has denied me sleep
Questioning my trust and confirming my doubt
Mocking at my shared weakness

See it twirl somberly in the atmosphere
That solemn sound none seems to hear
Hear it laugh ceaselessly at my wanton state
The curse of not knowing my fate
Watch it toil earnestly for mockery’s sake
To turn me to helpless haze
See it strive tireless day through night
Do you finally hear it?
The silence?
It’s too damn loud.

I have many words to say but time’s far spent
I’d have gifts to send but the distance doesn’t help
Let reflections from my heart tell you how I feel
Let droplets from my mind be yours to keep
As the maiden marks the end of the silver age
Let platinum in its place be yours to take
Let Virgo send her stars to adorn your head
That your light might shine ever brightly before men
Let happiness be yours to have and keep
To adorn your smiles and attitude with
Let peace of mind be your dearest friend
To keep you at ease when stress rears its head
Let the heavens arise to herald your day
And bestow you with your innermost wish
Let them watch over you night and day
That you may live to celebrate again

So my Tears Touched American Soil – by Lilian Ogbuefi

Picture

Right there in the shower
Crystal balls of water sliding down the earthly tones of my African skin
I let my locked heart open
Set bottled up emotions free
Splish! splash! splash! splosh!
It hit my back like angry stones
Like pent up anger from unknown accusers
Like judging fingers from pointing envies
Drip! drip! drop! drip!
This time it was my tears dancing freely from my face
Caressing exquisitely the smoothness of my skin
Disappearing into the flowing stream emanating from the shower
Down through the pipes, to the sewer then the drains
So my tears touched american soil
I had absolutely no need or reason
No call, no problem, no justification whatsoever
Still intensely I felt this burning desire
This distinctive urge tugging at the very essence of me
Pulling, weaving its way through my heart this craving
The sudden desire to cry
So I cried for all that I was worth
To the core of my being I let myself go
Pent up sadness and drawn back worries
Inept accusations and accepted discrimination
Self doubt , self worth, no self esteem
Regret, deceit, degradation, demeaning
I set it all free
As I stood there in the shower
Savoring the calmness and solitude the water brought
My tears seductively wiring its way down my face
Joining in the seeming stream of water,
Through the pipes, through the sewer, down the drains
And onto American soil….
I saw beauty
